Death Valley, CA/Paradise, NV. [May 2019]
a 2-hour dangerously above-speed-limit drive is all that separates life and death. But which do you prefer?
Choose Death (Valley) and be enchanted by the reflecting pools in Badwater Basin, a starry canvas as viewed from Zabriskie Point, the rugged landscape seen high from Dante’s View and low from Devil’s Golf Course, and the barren mosaic of Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes?
Or choose Li-fe(-ve) from Beautiful Las Vegas, and indulge in the gluttony at L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon and Zen Kitchen, mind-numbing entertainment (mind-blowing in the case of Penn & Teller), all while resisting the call of the BlackJack tables and thumping EDM music?
Choose whichever, just don’t regret the choice. Memento Mori.
“We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.” -J. Robert Oppenheimer
